HMS KELLY
(Built by Adrian Abbott - New Member)

Built from a Deans Marine kit, Kelly is 45" long with a 4.5" beam and
built at 1:96 scale. She is powered by two 7.2 volt NiCad batteries driving
twin 385 motors through a single 'Action' speed controller and twin props.
Scale speed with this set-up is very good. The model is also fitted with a
sound generator and twin latching set-up (both by 'Action') to give the
traditional destroyer 'whoop whoop' sound.

The ship was launched on 25 October 1938 and was handed over to Captain
Lord Louis Mountbatten, RN, on 23 August 1939. The Kelly was the 'name' ship
of the K Class destroyers and were one of the first one funnelled destroyers.
She was sunk after aircraft attack off Crete on 23 May 1941 - of all the J,
K and N Class destroyers, only 2 (Jervis & Javelin) lasted until the end of
WW2!
