Steam Launch Victoria
(Built by Barry & Betty Wincott)

The prototype was built in 1912 by Simpson Strickland and Co of Dartmouth as a private river launch. The power plant was likely to have been a Compound surface Condensing Steam Engine with a Coal Fired Boiler. The Victoria is believed to have been preserved and is now somewhere in the USA.

The Model was built from a Klaus Krick Modell-Technic Kit. Scale is 1:10 and builds up to a length of 43.5? with a beam of 10.5? (1105mm x 267mm). The Hull is an ABS Moulding and the Rope Fenders and various strip and woods were supplied. Mahogany, Tanganjich Pine, Obeche, Lime and Plywood. Brass fittings were purchased separately. The decking was planked by 23 Mtrs of 5mm x 1mm.

Motive power is provided by a Cheddar Models ?Puffin? Twin Cylinder, Oscillating Steam Engine and Boiler bought as a kit. The Boiler is fired via an automatic Electronic Gas Valve control. Capacity is approx? 0.6 Ltr, giving a continuous run of about forty Minutes. Control is via a 2Ch 27Mhz Sanwa Radio operating Steering and Engine control.

The model?s crew and passengers are the work of Betty Wincott who also prevented Barry from giving up the ghost by helping him out with the planking. The model took about Six Months to Build.
