Yachting Section

Mixed fleet on the lake The Yachting Section holds a race day approx once per month. The first race starts 10am, with races continuing till around midday.

The fleet is split into two classes, one for boats under 36 inches in length and one for 36 inches and over. Typical boats in the smaller class are Victorias, RG65s and Micro Magics, The larger class is made up of International One Metres, R36s, 10 Raters and Marbleheads or any other class members would like to race.

Race results are recorded for each event identifying the winner of the day in each class. These results go towards deciding a season winner in each class in such a way that even if you cannot attend all the meetings you could still be in with a chance

The racing is very light hearted with no protests/arguments; any club member wishing to join in will be welcome. The 2011 series was well supported with up to 20 boats on the water at a time, we hope this will continue in 2012

Race Scoring

Individual Day Events - Individual day events are scored for each class of yacht. For each race you take part in, you score one point for first place, two points for second etc. If you fail to finish a race or start a race, your score for that race is equal to the number of yachts taking part in that class on the day. The results are totalled for the day and the lowest score in each class is the winner of that class.

Championship - The individual day event results go towards overall positions in each class of yacht for the year. If you came first in a day event you score 30 points towards your yearly total. Second in an event and you would score 29 points and so on. If you do not take part in a day event you would score 0 points. The person with the highest score in each class over the year is the winner. There are eleven day events planned the year, only your best six results go towards the final total so several events can be missed and you would still have a good chance.

Trophies - Two trophies (shields) are awarded for the championship winners one for each class of yacht, on which the winners name is engraved. These trophies are held by the winner for one year then returned to be presented to the new championship winners.
